Despite its name, Gorakh Kalyan bears no resemblance to the Kalyan family of raags, making the inclusion of "Kalyan" in its name something of a mystery. In fact, it belongs to the Khamaj thaat, as indicated by its use of komal Ni. Performed in the night, this raag evokes a romantic mood.
