Bhoop means King. Raag Bhoop or Bhoopali is a majestic raag from the kalyan family. It is a very ancient raag. Though this raag is one of the beginner raags taught to students due to its simplicity, it has the potential to become a vast raag as your practice advances. Key Features of Raag Bhoopali 

  • The Kalyan ang can be seen in Raag Bhoopali. One way to identify the Kalyan ang is by imagining phrases in Raag Yaman, which is another name for Raag Kalyaan, and excluding the teevra Ma and the Ni notes from those phrases.   • Bhoopali is a poorvaang raag; elaborating in the mandra and madhya saptaks is important.

  • Bhoopali, Shuddh Kalyan and Deshkar are samaprakritik raags. Care must be taken to keep Bhoopali apart from Raag Deshkar, which hails from the Bilawal family.
